My journey continues.

I grew up in a town that had a river. On weekends we would go to that place for a swim or just play. One day I was crossing that river and it got quite deep. As I tried to swim my feet got caught up with debris and I was not able to move or get away. I panicked as I was trapped but thankfully after a short time, I managed to kick everything away and I was free. Without freedom I felt trapped, frustrated, weak and in danger.

I have visited the Thai detention centre in Bangkok where over stayers, among them many Christians, have had their freedom taken away. They have about 20 people in a cage, having to sleep standing up. There is not enough food for everyone. When they get sick there is no help and there is no hope of ever getting out for years.

There are many Christians (you may be one of them) who do not have freedom in their life. You may have sin that you cannot escape from. Maybe the church is suffocating you because you cannot express your gifting or express opinions. Perhaps you need to put things right with someone or it maybe the burdens of life that is getting you down. Whatever it is can I say from personal experience you can have freedom.

For years I have never experienced real freedom. I may have thought I was living in freedom but looking back I was not. If you have read my blogs you will know my journey up to this date and it has been very difficult especially the last two years where I have been under the bondage of the “cult.” It has been 2 years to the day since I reached rock bottom, was removed from the cult, and lost almost everything, including some family and friends. I have had to break the bondage that was holding me. I had to look at myself and put things right with other people, but most of all, I had to try to have a strong relationship with God to get me through. It was only two weeks ago that I suddenly realized I was free. My mind was clear, I was content, I understood that there were things that were not under my control and I had to let go. I had to have faith to believe that God knows what he is doing despite me wanting to help him out.

I found some quotes about freedom.

I am determined with God’s help to maintain the freedom I have. I cannot be complacent or I will be enslaved by something again. The Bible says in Galatians 5v1 “Stand fast in the liberty by which Christ has made us free and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.” That is what I am afraid of. This is the first time in years that I have experienced real freedom. Will I slip again? Maybe because I am human. Will my faith that God is in control waver at times? Probably, but after tasting this freedom I have I will try with God’s help to hold on to it.

I am writing this because I know many who have been or are in the same boat as me, and I know what I am saying is going to help you. I am living proof that it can happen. I am no spiritual giant, but God has been gracious to me. It has taken effort on my part too as I am fighting against myself to try and get out of the place I have been in. I know there will be more battles to fight but at this time I’m in a good place. I have shared with people over the past months who have been in a similar position as me especially with the cult. After talking with each other, I have noticed a change in them, where they are starting to feel free in some areas. I know they will make it and you will too.

I thought about what I feel free from and want to list them. Just think about it for yourselves.

Only we can stop our freedom. Others may try to stop it but we have the final decision.

It does take time. In my case it has taken two years to free myself from the teachings, the false accusations, the lies, the actions of so called friends, the rejections and the separation of family members still in the cult. God has been faithful in bringing people around me who are there when I need them. His blessings have given me the courage to keep going. I can’t rely on emotions but the solid foundation of God. My heart has been broken but God is the great healer who is doing an amazing job in putting me together again.

For those going through a lot at the moment just stand on the solid rock. When we are in the position of not being able to do anything, and I have been there many times recently, God says “I can.” From my experience I know that HE WILL.
